“Bright, saturated ruby-red. Extremely closed but pure nose hints at crushed raspberry, spices and sexy Provencal herbs, with a sweet suggestion of brown sugar. Round and broad-shouldered but quite dry on the palate, showing an intriguing loamy nuance. A substantial wine from a cold site, and bigger than usual for this bottling. Finishes with a fine dusting of tannins. James Hall noted that this wine is relatively low in alcohol for the vintage, but it's not at all a delicate style.” - Stephen Tanzer

"Good ruby-red. Aromas of black cherry, black tea, menthol and smoked meat lifted by a floral element. Juicy, tight and cool in character, with youthfully imploded flavors of black raspberry and licorice. At once dense, powerful and lively. Finishes classically dry, spicy and firmly tannic, with plenty of acidity for aging. This bottling is typically a slow developer, and this 2009 will also require patience." - Stephen Tanzer

“More authoritative, deeper, and more nuanced aromatically is the 2008 Pinot Noir Burnside Vineyard. This is one of the more complete 2008s, displaying sweet black cherry fruit intermixed with pomegranate earth, and spice. Medium-bodied and showing good purity, depth, and length, this is a very successful and reassuringly top-notch 2008. Drink it over the next 3 or so years.” - Robert Parker
