2011 Mendocino Chardonnay

With near-microscopic yields in 2011, this is an intense expression of high-mountain Chardonnay. While the nose offers rich layers of peach, pineapple and an almost custard-like quality, there are also exotic floral notes and more sophisticated terroir-inspired elements of spice, graphite, cedar and flint. Small berry size and ideal ripeness produced a softer, rounder wine, with subdued acidity and a rich, mouthcoating texture that concludes with a long, satisfying finish.

“Straw-yellow. Bright aromas and flavors of peach, pineapple, nutmeg, flint and brioche. Round, full and gentle, offering attractive sweetness but not the grip or minerality of the best 2011s in this collection. Conveys a rather low-acid impression. Spreads out nicely on the round, dry, slightly aggressive back end. Very good but it wanted a bit more fruit intensity.” - Stephen Tanzer

“Plenty of pineapple, honeysuckle and orange marmalade notes make this a delicious fruit-forward, gorgeous Chardonnay to drink over the next 2-3 years.” - Robert Parker
