2011 Carneros Pinot Noir
Hyde is one of the warmer sites we work with, and had no problem reaching full maturity in 2011. This said, our yields were down to approximately 1.5 tons per acre, with super-small berries and low seed counts. The resulting wine has enticing spice aromas, with layers of mulled cider, cinnamon, clove, strawberry, rose and lavender. On the palate, this wine is supple, soft and coating, with fine-grained tannins and a velvety mouthfeel. While it possesses a rich, sappy roundness, the overall impression is one of elegance and sophistication, with a lingering quality to the finish that underscores its delicate side.

“Good medium red, not too bright. Deeply pitched aromas of plum, raspberry, strawberry, mocha, loam and brown spices, lifted by floral notes of lavender and rose petal. Rich, broad and concentrated; more about spices and flowers than primary fruit today but sophisticated and complex nonetheless. A faint mintiness provides lift. Spreads out nicely on the back half, finishing with a light dusting of tannins and plenty of energy. This one needs a few years in the cellar.” - Stephen Tanzer

“Made from a combination of Dijon clones and the renowned (and winemaker’s favorite) calera clonal material, the 2011 Pinot Noir Hyde Vineyard offers up notes of roasted meats, bouquet garni, black currants and black cherries along with loads of steak tartare in a deep, rich, medium to full-bodied style.” - Robert Parker
