Larry Hyde & Family

Hailed as “The Wise Man of Carneros” by Wine Spectator, Larry Hyde is one of California’s legendary winegrowers and viticulturists. Prior to founding his own family vineyard in 1979, Larry worked for several highly regarded wineries including Ridge Vineyards, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars and Joseph Phelps.

Hyde Vineyard

Our longest grape purchase relationship is with the Hyde family. We have bought Hyde Vineyard fruit since 1990—our third year of production. Larry Hyde and now his son, Chris Hyde, are not only close friends but continue to produce some of our finest fruit, making wines of grace, harmony and personality. The wine world knows the quality of Hyde Vineyard, we are fortunate to have some of the best blocks come to Patz & Hall.

Larry has helped to develop two of the most important grape selections in California: Hyde-Wente Chardonnay and Hyde-Calera Pinot Noir. In addition to his work guiding the cultivation of Hyde Vineyard, Larry has also developed his own world-class wine label, HdV, in partnership with Aubert de Villaine, a relative by marriage and one of the owners of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
